This week the Moon travels through the last third of the zodiac, from Sagittarius to Pisces. These are signs ruled by Jupiter and Saturn, using the traditional rulers of astrology. Jupiter and Saturn are the two slowest moving visible planets. They are related to hope, optimism and growth (Jupiter) and structure, effort and facing the truth (Saturn).

These four astrology signs in sequential order are: Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. These four complete the evolution of the “Kala Purusha”, the being in time. The cycle which began in Aries, culminates in Pisces.

The first four signs, from Aries through Cancer are where creation is initiated (two initiating signs).

The next three signs from Leo through Scorpio are where creation is stabilized (two fixed signs).

This last section of the zodiac is were energy is transformed (two dual signs).

The current section of the Moon in the zodiac has two dual/mutable signs, the ones ruled by Jupiter: Sagittarius and Pisces. That makes this section of the zodiac the most mutable and transformative. It shows the soul letting go of the structure and forms of the world (the previous section of the zodiac) and connecting with what is beyond and before the world of forms. There are two Jupiter ruled signs surrounding two Saturn ruled signs.

This Week: Sagittarius Through Pisces
* Sagittarius gives meaning, hope and direction, coming after Scorpio, the sign where we must give up control.
* Capricorn gives structure and commitment to Sagittarian hopes and shows the need  to practically apply our teachings not just be inspired by them.
* Aquarius universalizes the individual, connecting them to a path of service, collective ambitions, cycles of time and those things much larger than personal interests.
* Pisces is beyond all individuality and collective ambitions. It exists only after we are truly done with worldly accomplishment, all its people, all injustices and glories. It is where we actually make peace with everything, are one with the source, with nothing left to lose.

~ Over the weekend the Moon was in Sagittarius, joined the North node, compelling us to look for meaning deeper than our imagined fears.
~ Monday and Tuesday the Moon is in Capricorn, compelling us to actually put our beliefs into practice or experience the fear and restlessness in the absence of such practices.
~ Wednesday and Thursday the Moon is in Aquarius, compelling us to greater service and acceptance of the nature of the world and our power to change what we can while were here.
~ Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Moon in Pisces compels us to abide in that which is eternal and beyond all of the triumphs and tragedies of the Earth and all its drama.

There are many planets in Pisces right now, and an aspect from Saturn, which is why things feel like a dream right now (and not a very good one if you look into world events). Pisces is a sign where there can be spiritual complacency due to the nature of feeling overwhelmed by all the preceding karma (the previous 11 signs). Those who have a lot of Piscean energy battle the feeling of “it’s all in God’s hands anyway, so why do anything?”. This sense of “letting go of it all” is also the root source of escapism into alcohol and drugs or entertainment or any situation where we want to shed the burden of individuality.

The empowered Piscean psychology is integrated with its opposite, Virgo, the sign where we feel totally responsible for our own evolution, managing/worrying over every single facet and detail of it. The balancing point is between these two extremes. The Pisces illusion mistakes the *feeling* of bliss in what is beyond, with being *established* in it. But they are two different things. Were not established in the beyond, until we have equanimity in all situations, rather than just some romantic or emotional high that comes from being able to connect with the source some of the time. We all feel that at times, and now is one of them, actually.

So many planets in Pisces can definitely lead to a tendency toward escapism, as we become overwhelmed about what to do now, and may feel powerless about it. But we have to prepare, there will be many planets in Pisces until May 3, 2011 – for more than a month – and we cannot simply disconnect, escape into some comforting illusion, or worse yet, some hysterical fear.

Jupiter / Saturn Exact Aspect

Now more than ever spiritual people are being tested to implement their beliefs and philosophies, not just be comforted by these ideas while everything is “going good”. That is the illusion of wisdom, the illusion of Jupiter, the illusion that “belief is experience”. It is not. The beliefs of Jupiter must be tested against the hard realism of Saturn. This is shown by the signs Capricorn and Aquarius existing between Sagittarius and Pisces, and the process described above.

Since April 2010, when Jupiter and Saturn began this opposition, I’ve been saying how this aspect will show the need for us to implement the details of the new paradigm for the world (Saturn in Virgo), measured against the big picture (Jupiter in Pisces). This external “implementation” is a mirror reflection of our need to do the same thing internally. For spiritual people it means of those sources of faith, inspiration and hope will be tested against the hard realism of sacrifice, sensitivity and sadhana. There so many spiritual teachers and enlightened perspectives now existing concurrent with dark forces of the oligarchy and the old paradigm.

These recent devastating world events must be seen in that context, in my opinion. They are compelling us to not only ask meaningful questions about Earth resources, money, politics, but also they are holding a mirror up to our individual consciousness(es), our tendency toward compassion, amount of levelheadedness or panic.

Saturn is the energy that shatters all of our illusions and in so doing reveals the greatness we hold inside, tucked beneath our immaturity and fears.

This week is an excellent opportunity to grow in hope, commitment and connection to that which is beyond the changing world of time.

Best Wishes,
Sam

"The Pisces illusion mistakes the *feeling* of bliss of what is beyond, with being *established* in it".

Bliss could be described as an inner state of silent communion and contentment with all that is~the unchanged "backdrop" to a busy, noisy, fast-paced, danger-ridden, modern life in the city or wherever one happens to be. Emotional "highs" born of the senses become relatively uninteresting to one who knows their source as beyond the body, mind and senses.

Pisces' higher function represents the transcendent state, that part of everyone which intuitively knows that our ultimate essence lies beyond the body, mind, senses, world. Pisces exhibits a longing to be in that transcendent state, to be one, which is ultimately not a "flashy" state. Inner Peace is not a sexy and attractive thing to want, even in the "spiritual marketplace" of the West, but it is what we are all looking for. Even attachment to meditation and high samadhi experiences are just experiences which come and go.

Pisces' particular understanding and illumination comes at the end of the journey, when we have seen through the empty promises of the illusory world and the trickery of the mind. Intuitive conviction ignites our sincerity, earnestness, and deep longing to go beyond, (which is simultaneously within).

This longing, many mystics have described, is actually the Source, pulling us back. It is all gravity, science, and evolutionary process at work. God is the Doer. It is not "we" who surrender (or accept), and "we" cannot claim any spiritual merit. It is bound to happen to everyone. Even to drug addicts and "escapists".

Perhaps even "escapism" has a purpose and function in this creation..

I'm reminded of Catholic Mystic poet, Francis Thompson who wrote the sublimely beautiful poem, "The Hound of Heaven". He was a heroin addict, and speaks about how God pursued him, even as he tried to "escape". So full of beauty and sincerity, it will shatter every yogi sadhaks idea of what it means to be "spiritual".

A great saint once said that tears shed born of longing for God are more effective than meditation. Not that we should abandon meditation practices, but it helps to put it into perspective. Obviously these are tears that cannot be manufactured. They come spontaneously from out of the core of us, and are not emotional "displays". That longing for the source, is, in Anandamayi Ma's words, "the Self calling to Itself", and it is closer to us than we think.

Concerning practices, a Pisces approach might favor the more feminine, "relaxing to receive" rather than the "striving to achieve" methods. The Western mind is habituated to striving to achieve in most areas of life. And it's a good thing!..sometimes.

"If constant contemplation on your real Self is done, the secret of Eternal Bliss will reveal itself to you"-Amma

Yikes! Sorry for the lengthy comment…i did't realize it would be so long. I get passionate about this stuff, and got carried away.
    Respectfully,

Thanks for the recent reading for me in Taurus (Vedic). I'm trying to reflect on the implications, etc.

Always appreciate your information about Jupiter/Saturn interactions. I'm running Jupiter/Saturn dasa now; and my natal chart has Moon and Saturn in Sag. I can relate to the balancing act between Jupiter/Saturn energies. Learning from my limitations seems to be a recurring Jupiter/Saturn theme for me. Sometimes I have to push the limits because limits change as I change and grow. In the pushing, I acquire a new level of humility because I know I can only do so much and then must let go. It may mean I need to apologize, or take action of some kind, but in the end my ego gets busted (which I consider a good thing even if it's painful) and I feel like I've grown.

    Thanks, Sam.
    Maria

You have no idea how much you have helped me with this as things have been difficult for me this past month. Thanks so much for this.

  9. G. Savitri says:

I'm glad it helped. I don't normally write such long comments, but was somehow inspired today.

My Guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, who brought Kriya Yoga to the West (a very "effort"- oriented path of meditation), used to love to recite Francis Thompson's "Hound of Heaven" to His devotees. There are beautiful recordings of this available. Such solace for us!

I highly recommend the book (esp. for this time of Pisces), "Women of Power and Grace", by Timothy Conway. Read the chapters on Anasuya Devi, Anandamayi Ma and Ammachi.

If you struggle (like many "aspiring" mystics i know), with the "striving" approach, Anasuya Devi will blow your mind! All great Mystics and Teachers of the highest order, and all one in Truth. Read their teachings in their own words. If I was stuck on a desert island, this is the book I would bring with me! (my bedside reading for years)~

Extremely well received and enlightening. Thank you Sam! I've shared it on FaceBook…and am certain it's going to get passed around a lot…Amazing information and your e-mails have been so helpful as I am going through very obvious "changes" or "evolutions." Namaste!

    " Connection or Escapism " …

Right on ! I joined Facebook about a month ago and I am finding it all so frivolous, I seriously feel right now, like I've outgrown social networking sites.

" This external “implementation” is a mirror reflection of our need to do the same thing internally. For spiritual people it means of those sources of faith, inspiration and hope will be tested against the hard realism of sacrifice, sensitivity and sadhana. "

These have been my thoughts exactly, you hit the nail on the head with this one. I know that now is the time dive deep into Sadhana, and I have been doing so ….I am on the brink of deactivating my Facebook; even though I appreciate all the updates and stimulating posts from yourself and a few others.

I have shared this on Facebook and several spiritual blogs, it is so timely !

The opposition of saturn jupiter in virgo/pisces will affect those individuals particularly who have saturn jupiter conjunction/opposition in their horoscopes, some will have good/bad effects as per their placement in the horoscopes

We need to discuss the above topic
