December 10 – Lunar Eclipse in Taurus

There will be a full lunar eclipse in the constellation of sidereal Taurus on December 10, 2011.

This lunar eclipse brings a psychological balancing point to the current Scorpio cycle, Which began with the solar eclipse in Scorpio on November 25, 2011.

This Taurus eclipse has several main sources of strength. First of all, the Moon is in its sign of exultation, Taurus. The moon is exalted in Taurus because of its stabilizing influence. The moon/emotions are where we are the most unstable. Also, the brighter the moon, the more capacity exists to endure emotional difficulty and stress. When the moon is full, it is at its brightest.

By contrast, the new moon/solar eclipse in Scorpio showed the moon to be in its deepest detriment. The Moon was very dark and in its sign of debilitation, the emotionally restless, unsettled and agitated Scorpio.

The deeper lesson here has to do with balancing the need for transformation with the need for structure and stability. Since the Scorpio cycle began on November 25, it may seem like many of the things you are relying on for emotional strength and comfort (be they financial, personal, emotional) have come under scrutiny and have needed strengthening. You’ve needed to confront these emotional attachments bravely.

Now, the full moon in Taurus brings a point of contrast which illuminates the need to be peaceful, settled and content – with the moment itself. Taurus is a sign of contentment and enjoying what we have (Venus) – not worrying about where we are going or what we need sometime later (Mars/Scorpio).

The illusion of Scorpio is ” intensity and drama = GROWTH”. This is not the case. True transformation doesn’t happen until the emotions calm down and stabilize (Taurus). At this time, with the full moon in Taurus, we can deeply inculcate this lesson.

Drinking the Soma – The Nakshatra Mrigashira

This eclipse will be in the Nakshatra of Mrigashira (Deer head), the wandering Star. It shows a deep need to search for the beauty in life. Such beauty gives us the will to live in spite of the ugliness we see through the gross senses and desire-filled mind.

This innate beauty is at the heart of who we really are and unlocks the Soma, (nectar of immortality) in our mind.
