New Moon in Cancer – Debt Ceiling – Divine Lilas

The New Moon and Sun will come together in Pushya Nakshatra. The word Pushya means “nourishment”. It is symbolized by the udder of a cow (Cancer is the breasts) and the Deity here is Brhaspati, the Vedic Priest. The planetary ruler is Saturn. These things symbolize sustenance and wealth. This Nashatra is connected to wills, legacies and maintaining resources so all can be provided for.

There is a story that sums up this Nakshatra:

Brihaspati was the teacher of the Gods and married to the lovely and desirable Tara. He was much older than Tara and very formal in his expression of affections, being a Brahmin. One day, the charming and romantic Moon God, Soma, became infatuated with the beautiful Tara and her with he. The two scandalously ran off together to the shock and dismay of the Gods. Brihaspati insisted that Soma return his wife and Soma refused. Soon a war began, with Soma utilizing the help of the Asuras (demons) against the Gods in an effort to keep Tara.

Tara was pregnant and would not say whom the father was which made Brihaspati threaten to kick her out until the child was born. At that moment, the child, Mercury, was born of his own will. Tara then confessed the child belonged to Soma. Brihaspati was furious, though unable to resist the charming child Mercury, thus named “Budha.” Mercury is the God of discrimination and intellect (Buddhi). He was born of Consciousness (the Moon) and the power (wife) of our higher principles (Jupiter/Brhaspati).

As the story illustrates, even though there had been an offense, Brhaspati saw to it that all in the family were cared for and nourished. After the drama of the Divine Lila calms down, everyone needs to eat and be fed, Pushya – Nourishment – A cow’s udder – Saturn – Cancer – the breasts. This is the section of Cancer that is conservative, traditional and has a love of family values and providence. It is considered to be one of the most auspicious Nakshatras overall.

Last month, the New Moon was also a partial Solar eclipse in Ardra Nakshatra. That New Moon occurred very close to the Galactic plane, the most transformational section in the zodiac. When the Sun is in Ardra, the Earth is closest to the Galactic center and passing through the center of the Galactic plane. When the Sun is in Mula (opposite Ardra) the Earth is furthest from the Galactic center.

Since then we saw massive heat waves, two shocking terror events (one in India and one in Norway) and are currently waiting to see if the radical right wing of the US Republican party is able to destabilize the US , and perhaps even, the global economy.

A was said, Pushya is a very stable and conservative Nakshatra and my feeling is (behind the scenes) the big money brokers (Pushya) are going to step in and end this game of chicken. Also, public pressure will soon demand a solution, especially if the date comes and goes with no solution in place and global markets panic.

Notice how even in the story above, there is a scandal / deception and a furious battle that rages between the forces of light and dark. Then what is actually born from the chaos is stabilized here in this Nakshatra.

One thing to realize, no matter how much we may hate our enemies, nature has no hatred for people. Even the bad people get to eat, enjoy the sunshine and drink the water. That generosity of a mother’s love is shown here.

Venus is also very closely joined the New Moon, also in Pushya, and Venus has no stomach for “suffering for our principles”, like Mars. So far the debt crisis has been dominated by the Mars / Ketu connection and the inertia it caused. That inertia is winding down now, as both sides have draw their “symbolic” lines in the sand, voting on Bills they know will never pass – wasting time, infuriating all and satisfying none. This is total dysfunctional Mars energy, existing in the New Moon cycle initiated in Ardra.

The new energy is dominated by a softer energy of Cancer, Pushya Nakshatra and the Venus conjunction. Perhaps their will still be an intense resolution to the debt crisis, as those seeds have already been sown. A unilateral action by President Obama, or the threat.. Or other showdown / crisis is still possible, but I think not.

In the next few days I expect a face saving solution will come forth and disaster will be averted, Sun, Moon and Venus in Pushya will bring sustenance.

Maybe we all can feed and love beyond what offenses we may be hanging on to or victories we are claiming over others. True wisdom realizes that that there are no accidents or victims or sustained wins or losses here on Earth.. just “Lilas” – divine plays through which we may find our Self. In other words, lighten up and see how nourished you are, then feed that benefit to all you encounter. That is what I will be working on.
