Capricorn is an initiating Earth sign ruled by Saturn, which shows the determination and effort necessary to bring our higher goals into the material plane. Much of that process involves identifying the problems we need to surmount and overcome, then concentrating our energy on them. Mind (Moon) and Soul (Sun) come together now around these principles for the next 30 days.

Through Capricorn, Saturn makes us emotionally and psychologically (Earth=internal, reflective sign) aware of our need to make peace with the results of time. Eventually we are going to lose it all. All forms will dissolve back into the great Cosmic womb. We must reckon with our salvation alone, in solitude.

Everyone we know and love is going to die and so are we.

We were born alone and we will die alone.

Does that sound “gloomy” or “scary”? If so, you need to so some Saturn work. It is just a simple truth, and a beautiful one at that. it is only scary because we are under the illusion of separateness and it hurts.

We feel that hurt and try to “fix it” in Capricorn.

This New Moon in Capricorn is a time to ask yourself:
What lies beyond these forms and structures of Earth?
Who am I beyond all that I will lose – body, family, money, etc.?
Do I cling to what is known and safe, hanging on too long?
Am I afraid to commit to people and things because they will make me face the responsibilities of life?
How peaceful am I in solitude?
Am I hanging on to regrets and bitterness?

This new Moon happens in the Nakshatra of Uttara Ashada, which means “later victory”. This Nakshatra is ruled by the Vishwa Devas (Universal Gods). When we adhere to the universal laws such as time (Kala), action (Karma) and truth (Dharma), our victory is assured.

It is also in the section of the sky where the mystical Nakshatra of Abhijit falls (from 6 º40 to 10 º53’20” Capricorn) – which is ruled by Lord Brahma and said to be the most triumphant section of the sky.

The Ruler of the New moon, Saturn is exalted and in an exchange with its ruler, Venus – continuing to bring themes of service, concentration and commitment into our personal interactions.

This next 30 days are great for deepening your commitment to the social contract, not just between yourself and other individuals, but to all creatures and to culture itself. Venus is in Aquarius – the Saturn ruled sign related to humanitarianism and making peace with life’s ups and downs. There is enormous capacity for devotion, sharing and giving comfort to others who may be suffering under the burden of these fears and hardships. This is why Saturn / Venus associations are so beneficial. We sense there is pain, in ourselves and others, and we want to help – we want to offer comfort – we cannot turn away.
