The new Moon of December 24 will take place in Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter. Sagittarius is the masculine, external quality of Jupiter – who is the planet of hope, optimism and a sense of higher purpose. Jupiter is the planet that gives us hope and belief in things bigger than just our limited skills, intelligence and will-power. At some point, we will realize there are things we simply cannot figure out or attain through our own limited devices. At that time, we look for a teacher to help us and assist us with intelligence and techniques to increase our power and understanding of life.
It is these great teachings, teachers and systems that form the basis of our beliefs and give our life a sense of meaning and hope. We need this to overcome life’s difficulties and setbacks. Those great teachers that inspire us, who have walked the path which we aspire to walk, come from Jupiter. His Sanskrit name is “Guru”, which has many meanings – Dispeller (Gu) of darkness (Ru) is one – also “Heavy” – as it is this faith which allows us to sink deeper than the surface emotions of the world.
I like this “Heavy” interpretation, especially for this section of the zodiac and the Nakshatra of this new moon. The New Moon in Sagittarius will be in Mula Nakshatra, related to seeds, planting and uprooting. The word Mula literally means “root”. This is a section of the sky that looks back toward the center of our galaxy. Both the plane of the galaxy and the galactic core are here. This Nakshatra falls immediately after Scorpio, the place of our deepest emotional potential, where we stabilize the emotions by sinking deeply into them. Once we do that, the capacity to uproot our dangerous emotional attachments (and plant the seeds of wisdom, hope and a higher purpose) is found.
The next 30 days are an ideal time for connecting to your higher teachings and the deeper sense of purpose that comes from them. Spiritual pilgrimages , spending time with your teachers are important. It is also a good time for you to teach as well.
Aspects are Big Here
Jupiter is not only the ruler of this new Moon in Sagittarius, he is also aspecting from Aries. This Jupiter aspect confers benevolence on all described indications. You may just suddenly find grace and ease connecting you to your teachers.
Also, exalted Saturn is aspecting from Libra, bring determined effort and humility to the proceedings. Once in the presence of your teachers, you may find it easier than normal to commit to the path prescribed and stay on it.
A powerful Mars in Leo brings discipline and courage to the mix.
1. Look for a deeper / higher meaning, but do not get into “Spiritual bypassing” or trying to “rise above” difficulty.
2. Watch being indulgent or overly(whatever). Jupiter/Sagittarius energy can just be too BIG for our own good.
3. Channel that desire to grow with some serious study of elevated subject material. Such as:
