Vedic Astrology – Planetary War – Graha Yuddha

In planetary war, the planets have to be within 1 degree Of each other, but there is conflicting information about whether the one with the highest or lowest longitude “wins”. Also it is unclear whether ecliptic longitude or declination is to be used. There are also certain things like “Venus always wins” (due to brightness) ,.. And certain references that imply the speed of the planets and many other things..

In my research I have seen the planet with the lowest ecliptic longitude “wins” and the karmas of one get transferred to the other. Like many things in Vedic astrology, it is often overstated .. toward the negative. But that is not the case

Here are a few case studies. Pretty much without fail, when you apply the classic rules and principles of Vedic Astrology .. Planets as house rulers, rasas yogas, etc,.. You see the Yuddha clearly.

CASE STUDIES:

Adolph Hitler
Venus is defeated in planetary war by mars. Hitler as a youth (in Venus dasa) wanted to be an artist. This was defeated, as Venus is the artist. He did not become one but applied to art school, designed furniture, painted. One of the main accomplishments and priorities of the Third Reich was the architecture, the symbolism and the whole “look” of it. The iconography of Swastika and jackboots and uniform design is inseparable. So we see a Martial expression of this Venus (artistic) nature.

Also, before the Third Reich devolved into insanity, creative technologies – especially mechanical and in engineering – were hallmarks of Germany. Hitler, with his libra ascendant, remained an artist at heart. But he “created” a nightmare, his utopic vision of Teutonic beauty (venus) perverted by the tyranny of an exalted sun and losing a Graha Yuddha to Mars.

Mercury defeating Jupiter in a planetary war in his 4th house.. Scorpio. Jupiter rules his 5th and 8th houses – Leo lagna – forming a powerful Raja Yoga, also with his Sun. However, the nature of Jupiter as a karaka of hope, optimism, belief, children get interrupted. One recalls the scandal involving an affair with his wife’s daughter. Jupiter rules the 5th and 8th houses and Mercury is without morals, opposite Jupiter in this way.

Woody Allen went into mercury dasa in december 1991. In 1992 it was revealed he was having a relationship with his wife’s adopted daughter. They soon married, had kids and have been together ever since.

Barbara Walters
Mars  is defeating Mercury in a planetary war,  Being 29 Virgo, with Mercury at less than 1° of Libra. It is interesting how she is known  as a communicator, even though she has been ridiculed for speech and her slight lisp and strange pronunciations of certain words. She was lampooned as “Baba Wawa”  On Saturday night live for years.

It was reported that she did not appreciate that ridicule at all. She has been known to have feuds with coworkers, most notably Harry Reasoner -  her former co-anchor,  as well as others co-workers – a google search for Barbara Walter’s feuds, brings up many pages!

As  A Virgo ascendant, with Mercury in Libra in the second house -  a place of verbal communication – journalism is in her blood. Yet she is a real fighter, tenacious, and a real trailblazer. All of these are traits of Mars.

This astrologer recalls a few years back when Rosie Odonnell and Donald Trump were feuding publicly. With Barbara Walters in the middle, how she held her ground, yet communicated clearly, refusing to be played.

CONCLUSION:
- I get most consistent results assessing planetary war based on ecliptic longitude where the planet in the lowest degree absorbs the effects of the one in higher longitude.

- The planet as a karaka, and house ruler are all affected, including it’s participation in yogas, etc .. With all the subtlety that implies.

- One should not assume it is “bad”, or like many other over simplistic applications of astrology, there will be a lot of smoke and very little fire.
